In the domain of LIFE TECHNOLOGIES, we have currently 3 internship positions available, of 6 months duration, and flexible start from 15/01/2026.

The internships are reserved to undergraduate students currently enrolled in a master’s degree course in fields related to the research topics.

  1. Microelectronics for Neurodevices

    The internship will be carried out in the Group of Microtechnology for NeuroElectronics coordinated by Luca Berdondini in the Center for Converging Technologies (Genova, Italy).

    General description: You will work in the area of Brain-Machine Interfaces, developing and testing hardware systems and devices; you will also work on software development and finally evaluate the ethical issues in the development and use of brain computer interfaces.

  2. Sensory & Functional Information from Brain Circuit Functional Imaging

    The internship will be carried out in the Group of Optical Approaches to Brain Function coordinated by Tommaso Fellin in the Center for Converging Technologies (Genova, Italy).

    General description: You will work in the area of Neurophotonics. You will work with Two-photon microscopy and Functional imaging; you will also carry on activities of software development and image segmentation.

  3. Brain-Behaviour relationships via fMRI

    The internship will be carried out in the Group of Functional Neuroimaging coordinated by Alessandro Gozzi in the Center for Neuroscience and Cognitive Systems (Rovereto, Trento, Italy).

    General description: You will work in the area of brain imaging and experimental neuroscience, handling and curating big neuroimaging databases and performing Statistical and network analysis of this type of datasets.

Nanomaterials

In the domain of NANOMATERIALS, we have currently 4 internship positions available, of 6 months duration, and flexible start from 15/01/2026.

The internships are reserved to undergraduate students currently enrolled in a master’s degree course in fields related to the research topics.

  1. Development of Edible Rechargeable Batteries

    The internship will be carried out in the Group of Printed and Molecular Electronics coordinated by Mario Caironi in the Center for Nano Science and Technology (Milano, Italy).

    General description: You will carry on activity in the Edible/Printable Organic Electronics, performing selection and testing of functional materials, edible electronic components and battery assembly.

  2. Development of Edible Smart Pills

    The internship will be carried out in the Group of Printed and Molecular Electronics coordinated by Mario Caironi in the Center for Nano Science and Technology (Milano, Italy).

    General description: You will carry on activity in the Edible/Printable Organic Electronics, performing selection and testing of smart functional materials, edible electronic components and smart pills assembly.

  3. Mitochondria-targeted drug-loaded nanoparticles

    The internship will be carried out in the Group of Smart Bio-Interfaces coordinated by Gianni Ciofani in the Center for Converging Technologies (Genova, Italy).

    General description: You will work on a project in the area of Nanomedicine and Microfabrication. You will be involved in the development of nanoparticles for sub-cellular targeting and testing on organ-on-chips.

  4. Oxidation-responsive Anti-inflammatory Materials

    The internship will be carried out in the Group of Polymers & Biomaterials coordinated by Nicola Tirelli in the Center for Converging Technologies (Genova, Italy).

    General description: You will work on a project in the area of drug delivery and macromolecular chemistry. You will perform synthesis of new polymers, characterization of polymer micelles and in vitro evaluation of anti-inflammatory potential.

Robotics

In the domain of ROBOTICS, we have currently 9 internship positions available, with varying durations of either 3 or 6 months, and flexible start from 15/01/2026.

  1. Teleoperated Robot-Human Interactions

    The internship will be carried out in the Group of Humanoid Sensing and Perception coordinated by Lorenzo Natale in the Center for Robotics and Intelligent Systems (Genova, Italy).

    General description: Teleoperated humanoid robots can be used as an efficient tool to collect data while interacting with a human partner. You will analyze such data, which will be then used to train learning strategies to make the robot autonomous.

  2. Robotic Manipulation Strategies (Reinforcement Learning, Imitation Learning)

    The internship will be carried out in the Group of Humanoid Sensing and Perception coordinated by Lorenzo Natale in the Center for Robotics and Intelligent Systems (Genova, Italy).

    General description: In this project, you will develop control strategies for robotic manipulation using Reinforcement and Imitation Learning, leveraging simulation, real-world data, and multi-modal perception to enable robust sim-to-real transfer performance.

  3. Development of New Segmentation Tools

    The internship will be carried out in the Group of Humanoid Sensing and Perception coordinated by Lorenzo Natale in the Center for Robotics and Intelligent Systems (Genova, Italy).

    General description: You will be involved in developing a new and versatile segmentation tool that can combine several existing methods, enhancing them with the ability to segment also cartoons, and that can be used also as semi-automatic annotation tool for segmentation datasets.

  4. Development of a Visual-Language Foundational Model

     

    The internship will be carried out in the Group of Humanoid Sensing and Perception coordinated by Lorenzo Natale in the Center for Robotics and Intelligent Systems (Genova, Italy).

    General description: You will be involved in the development of a Visual-Language foundational model for narrative-based Humanoid-Robot Interaction.

  5. ‘Growing Robots’ Used to Navigate Unexplored Environments

    The internship will be carried out in the Group of Bioinspired Soft Robotics coordinated by Barbara Mazzolai in the Center for Converging Technologies (Genova, Italy).

    General description: ‘Growing robots’ autonomously construct their bodies; such robots are exploited to navigate environments with unknown internal structure. You will (re)design and fabricate components, implement and validate navigation strategies, and test the system in real-world scenarios.

  6. Living Models of Plant/Fungal Symbiosis

    The internship will be carried out in the Group of Bioinspired Soft Robotics coordinated by Barbara Mazzolai in the Center for Converging Technologies (Genova, Italy).

    General description: Plant-fungi symbiosis is being investigated as a model to extract communication strategies for robotic systems. Your goal will be to implement experimental protocols to characterize this biological model and its key variables.

  7. Smart Artificial Devices

    The internship will be carried out in the Group of Bioinspired Soft Robotics coordinated by Barbara Mazzolai in the Center for Converging Technologies (Genova, Italy).

    General description: Smart artificial devices based on biomimetic structures utilize principles from nature to create innovative robotic technologies. You will study and use different biodegradable and biocompatible materials in order to design and construct these biomimetic structures.

  8. Autonomous, Bio-inspired, Burrowing Systems

    The internship will be carried out in the Group of Bioinspired Soft Robotics coordinated by Barbara Mazzolai in the Center for Converging Technologies (Genova, Italy).

    General description: Burrowing systems are tunnels or cavities created in the ground by animals for various purposes (shelter, protection, locomotion, food storage). You will study and analyze burrowing systems for then designing and fast prototyping new ones; you will also assemble the systems and then test and validate their performance.

  9. Soft Underwater/Agricultural Grippers

    The internship will be carried out in the Group of Bioinspired Soft Robotics coordinated by Barbara Mazzolai in the Center for Converging Technologies (Genova, Italy).

    General description: Underwater and agricultural grippers are specialized robotic end-effectors designed to interact with objects in challenging environments; you will design and fast prototype them; you will also assemble the systems and then test and validate their performance.
